CHIEF WHIP KEEPS HIS PROMISE AND DELIVERS A BRAND NEW HOME TO GOGO MAHAMBAE
04 May 2019
ANC Ekurhuleni Caucus led by ANC Chief Whip in Ekurhuleni Cllr Jongizizwe Dlabathi officially handed-over a brand new home to Gogo Evelinah Mahamba (80) from Ward 112 (Ext 8) in Tsakane On Saturday, 04 April 2019.
This after the ANC Caucus was shocked by the state of gogo’s living conditions when it paid her a visit through a programme called Taking Caucus To The People in Tsakane last year. A commitment was made to assist the pensioner to build her a new home.
“The programme is about taking ANC Councillors to the community they serve so that we continuously monitor the living conditions of our people and further engage them whilst we give reports of service delivery in their areas. We strongly believe that it’s only when you go to the people where you’ll actually pick-up the real problem so that you can be conscious and go back to the system and try ways in which you can intervene” said Dlabathi.
Cllr Dlabathi said they are happy to be able to keep to their commitment and built her a quality house and officially handed over to her.
“This means, when we were confronted with gogo’s living conditions at the time when she was stayed in a shack for many years; who’ve been overlooked whilst she had a subsidy when the was housing development in the area. That saddened us, we then made a commitment to build her a house. We made this commitment because we are always prepared to change the lives of our people, especially a pensioner who has been staying in a shack without a proper house” He said.
Dlabathi thanked the ANC led government because it is clear that the Thuma Mina spirit is working in the ANC and it benefits our people.
He said the ANC government will continue providing services even beyond the election period. He said this disputing the notion that the house was part of the ANC’s electioneering strategy.
“We also want further affirm our commitment in delivering services to our people, therefore if the government has not reached you it doesn’t mean you will not receive any services. We would like to appeal to the community of Ekurhuleni to be patient with the ANC led government. We’ve built many houses and many benefitted. However, we equally acknowledge that there’s a lot that needs to be done” Cllr Dlabathi said.
ANC Government in Ekurhuleni has committed to build extra 100 000 (One Hundred Thousand) houses, 59 000 (Fifty-Nine Thousand) service stands for young people, middle class and professionals, for them to build their own houses. And that on its own is clear demonstration of commitment to deal with the backlog houses in Ekurhuleni.
An additional commitment to provide the pensioner with a furniture. Dlabathi also advise the family to protect the house, no one must be tempted to sell it and it must be properly maintained.
“At some point I had lost hope but today I’m happy. I would like to thank the ANC Government for building me such a beautiful house. I will now be in the comfort of my own hosue” said Gogo Mahamba.
Ward 112 Councillor Annah Mnguni said gogo has been staying in shack for at-least 22-years and they’ve been trying intervene in so many occasions.
“In this ward, we’ve prioritizedmore than 20 grannies who have benefited in the Ext 22 project but gogo Mahamba’s challenge was that she had already received a subsidy and a stand where she was already staying but without a proper house” she said.
However, the Cllr Mnguni noted that there are more grannies who still need to be allocated proper houses in her ward, but already a process has ensued between herself and human settlement department in ensuring that those grannies who are still yet to receive proper houses are assisted.
