Daveyton – Pensioner Betty Skosana (101) received a brand new Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP) house, which was handed over by African National Congress (ANC) Chief Whip in Ekurhuleni Clr Jongizizwe Dlabathi on July 18 in Daveyton. Dlabathi says he was thankful to the community of Ward 25 for alerting him about the extreme conditions the pensioner was living in. “Today, we are happy that a commitment that was made earlier this year to relocate Gogo Skosana to a proper housing environment has been fulfilled. “We are mostly thankful to the community for making us aware of the situation,” says Dlabathi. The pensioner was living in a shack with her family in Masakhane, an isolated plot. She has never owned a house. She says: “Finally! I’m relieved that I will be staying in a house of my own. “I would like to thank everyone who has supported me and my family from the beginning.”
The councillor appealed to the family to take care of the house and that the house was not for sale. He said this was a demonstration that as a caring government they are able to reach out to all citizens of Ekurhuleni. “Today Gogo is receiving this house inspired by the spirit and the character of Tata Nelson Mandela, who always taught that human solidarity is important and that at all times we must be at service to the people,” says Dlabathi. He thanked the Department of Human Settlements and the City’s executive mayor for ensuring that Gogo Skosana received a decent house. The City’s government has committed to building 100 000 houses and 59 serviced stands.
ANC Caucus in Ekurhuleni welcomed the State of the City Address delivered by the Executive Mayor Cllr Mzwandile Masina at the Germiston Council Chamber in OR Tambo Government Precinct Civic Centre – Germiston on Wednesday, 18 March 2020.
