ANC EKURHULENI CAUCUS ASSURES 80-YEAR-OLD GOGO OF A BRAND NEW HOUSE

06 August 2018

Story by: Media Alert

An 80-year-old pensioner Gogo Evelinah Mahamba couldn't hold her tears when ANC Chief Whip Cllr Jongizizwe Dlabathi, ANC Exco Members, MMC for Human Settlement Cllr Lesiba Mpya, MMC Tiisetso Nketle and Ward 112 Cllr Annah Mnguni assured her that she'll be in her brand new house by October.
Chief Whip visited the family in Tsakane, Ext 8 on Thursday, 02 August 2018.
Gogo Mahamba stays in shack and had been waiting for her own proper house to be built since 1997.
In her tears, she expressed her joy and said “now that those that in authority are here and witness my ordeal I hope that I will finally be in my house.”
She told Chief Whip that her shack was flooding during rainy season and that resulted in her furniture and clothes being damaged in a process.
After a small tour in a shack, Chief Whip was shocked that the pensioner has been living in such a condition and then instructed the government officials to speed-up the process and build the house for the 80-year-old pensioner.
“As we celebrate Women’s Month, the gift we can give to the women’s struggle and in recognizing their continuous contribution in shaping our country and families, we’ll therefore build this house as part of Mama Albertina Sisulu centenary themed MAMA SISULU LEGACY” Chief Whip said.
"We are doing this because this is a caring government and on behalf of the African National Congress we will deliver this house" – he said.
Chief Whip also apologized to the pensioner and her family for taking this long to address this matter but assured the family that gogo will be in her new house soon.
Gogo Evelinah Mahamba expressed her joy and said she had already lost hope and thought she was not getting her home.
MMC Lesiba Mpya also committed that he’ll follow the matter make all the necessary corrections are instituted so that Gogo can stay in her house in peace. Meanwhile, a temporary structure to house gogo Evelinah has been built whilst the construction work continues.
She also received a donation of food and soon she'll receive new furniture to replace the damaged one.
